How Can Neuro Linguistic Programming Help Me?
A therapist using the principles of NLP can make
many deep and lasting changes quickly and easily. NLP allows for
quick and effective change of thoughts, behaviors, and beliefs that
limit you. A few specific examples of things you can accomplish
with NLP: overcome fears, phobias and insomnia, help children with
spelling and reading problems, and eliminate most unwanted habits.
NLP works most effectively when combined with hypnotherapy.
What is Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP)?
Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) is a structure
of experience. It is an explicit and powerful model of human experience
and communication. It is how humans think and experience the world.
NLP studies the patterns of "programming" created by the interaction
among the brain (neuro), language (linguistic), and the body that
produce both effective and ineffective behavior. It is the use of
the nervous system (mind and body) through which our experience
is processed via the five senses: visual, auditory, kinesthetic,
olfactory, and gustatory.
How does NLP Work?
NLP also involves the language and other nonverbal communication
systems through which our neural representations are coded, ordered,
and given meaning. This includes: pictures (visual), sounds (auditory
tonal), feelings (kinesthetic), tastes (gustatory), smells (olfactory),
and words (auditory digital). The programming part of NLP is the
ability to discover and utilize the programs that we run (our communication
to ourselves and others) in our neurological systems to achieve
our specific and desired outcomes. Since much of this occurs outside
of our awareness, NLP studies both our conscious and unconscious
ways of communicating and programming. The term "programming" also
indicates that both our consciously reproducible behaviors, as well
as many of our habitual (usually unconscious) ones, have been "programmed"
into our neurology, i.e. they have been learned, and therefore,
most importantly, are modifiable.
The Power of Focus
Your nervous system produces behavior of the internal
representation systems that you hold in your mind. Positive self-talk
is a must, not negatives. An Indian Sage named Patanjali wrote "The
Yoga Sutras" and stated, "Where there is negative thinking, let
there be reflection to the contrary." You do get what you focus
on, so focus on what you want.
